Evolution is the solution

 

  This section really clarified my understanding of sexual selection, previously I was under the assumptions that females would choose a mate simply on preference or males would simply out compete others for mating rights. However I now understand that it is not only preference and strength but also the abiltiy to attract a mate and the ability to pass on genetic information.
